John Canfield, C.E.M., C.L.E.P. - President and Owner

 

John has worked for over 25 years in the energy field as an engineer and consultant. John has performed detailed energy audits of over 100 million square feet including military bases, federal and state facilities, city and county facilities, university campuses, industrial plants/sites, hospitals, K-12 school districts, and commercial offices. John has been a consultant under contract to the Colorado Governor’s Office of Energy Management since 2000 and has also provided similar consulting services the States of Utah, Wyoming, and Montana.

 

John brings a unique perspective in working with clients with his background as an engineer, high school teacher, presenter, co-founder and Vice President of a national energy service company, energy manager for the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Facilities Management Department, solar system designer and installer, and current founder and owner of Trident Energy Services.  John has a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado in building energy engineering. John was named 2006 Colorado Energy Champion and appointed to Boulder County Consortium of Cities Task Force in 2006.


Emily Evans, P. E., LEED A.P. - Energy Engineer

 

Emily works as an engineer and consultant with Trident Energy Services. Emily has helped develop energy and sustainability plans for public and private organizations both locally, nationally, and internationally. She brings experience in evaluating the financial benefits of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy projects, developing strategic plans for reducing energy and greenhouse gas emissions, and analyzing and calculating various sustainability metrics. As a consultant to the Governor’s Energy Office, she assists with the management and coordination of energy performance contracting projects for local and state governments, and works with the commercial sector in identifying cost saving energy efficiency measures for small businesses through the Main Street Efficiency Initiative.

 

Prior to joining Trident Energy Services, Emily was a project manager for Natural Capitalism Solutions. She co-authored a book with Hunter Lovins, sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, on the future of industry in Asia and in the World. Emily has also worked with Brown and Caldwell helping project managers and clients better understand carbon foot-printing. Emily completed her B.S. and M.S. in environmental engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 

 

Consultants / Subcontractors

Eric Johanson, P.E., LEED A.P., C.E.M. - Senior Engineer

 

Eric has worked for over 25 years in the energy field as a consultant and engineer. For 20 years he designed energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems and low water-use plumbing for new and existing buildings. He provided energy and economic analysis as well as design and construction management for the projects. Specialties included cost estimating, HVAC controls and renewable energy use, including solar and geothermal heat pumps. His clients include higher education, K-12 schools, and the National Park Service. Some of his projects have required LEED certification. Eric performed energy audits for 8 buildings at the University of Northern Colorado, and he provided an energy audit for a building for the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) / Xcel.  He was the energy engineer on a performance contract to replace a Chiller at Regis University.    He has also reviewed energy audits by ESCOs for Colorado municipalities for GEO, and he analyzed energy use for Colorado K12 schools.

 

Eric co-authored “The Sustainable Design Resource Guide”, published by AIA Denver, is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. Eric has a BS from Northwestern University in chemical engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and a LEED accredited professional.

 

Curt Cheesman, Associate

 

Curt manages energy performance contracts for various public agencies through the Governor's Energy Office Energy Performance Contracting program. Having several years of experience working in the public sector, Curt has a thorough understanding of how municipalities function including financing mechanisms and capital improvement plans. He has secured numerous grants for energy performance contracting projects and has worked with several different financing mechanisms.

 

In addition to working with Trident, Curt is the Director of Facility Management and Recreation Department for the City of Lafayette. Curt has worked with the City of Lafayette to implement energy conservation and clean energy measures using a $1,200,000 energy performance contract and has also prepared an Energy Sustainability Master Plan for the City. He develops public communication and education activities related to energy and sustainability as public outreach. Curt is a member of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), a committee member of 2008 Living Green Lafayette Festival, and is the City liaison for the Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee. Curt is also the owner of Enlighten Energy Consulting, Inc.

 

Amy Slaymaker, Technical Assistant

 

Amy supports projects, administrative, human resources, and facility needs of Trident Energy Services.  Key areas of support include bookkeeping/accounting, database management, operations, HR/recruitment, and project coordination.  Amy has experience as a Business Manager/Generalist for several small start-up companies.  Prior to supporting small businesses, she was the Branch Manager for Kelly Scientific Resources overseeing multiple scientific staffing branches, servicing five states.  Her Bachelor and Master degrees were in the sciences and she is currently pursuing an MBA in accounting and finance at Regis University.
